Opinion | Saul Saidykhan hammers his views on Barrow’s “Unprecedented” win, reminds him of the dangers posed on election scam!

Image
By Saul SaidyKhan In a leaked audio call between Barrow and an unidentified IEC official on election night, the president could be heard gushing (about his emerging electoral heist)“it’s unprecedented”!  Indeed, it is. Never have we had an election so blatantly rigged as the December 2021 presidential election. The most unpopular president in Gambian history - the only sitting president we’ve had thus far who serially fails to elicit any cheers from citizens when he ventures out has miraculously scored the largest number of votes in the largest turnout election in our history.  The 2021 turnout was larger than all our pre-Independence elections and even the Independence Referendum. In short, our 7 year old girl name Adama Barrow has given birth to a 9 lbs baby under the wonderful midwifery of our colorful IEC! In another leaked audio from Barrow’s NPP Only forum, a man who didn’t fully self-identify could be heard addressing one Sainey Manneh and exhorting his colleagues to refrain fro

D. A Jawo Offers Advice to President Elect Barrow

Image
A Piece of Advice to President-elect Barrow By D. A. Jawo Now that President-elect Adama Barrow has received a strong mandate from Gambians to rule this country for another five years, everyone is anxiously waiting to see how he is going to handle his new mandate. Is he going to continue with the same lackadaisical attitude, with corruption and malfeasance being the hallmark of his last administration, or are we going to see more positive developments, with head-on confrontation against corruption and mis-management?  Regardless of who voted for him and who did not, and the obvious fact that there were some irregularities in the elections, Barrow is still president for all Gambians, and as such, we should all pray for the success of his administration, because it means ultimate success for the Gambia. It is a well known fact that several non-Gambians who had no business in our elections were mobilized to vote and they indeed voted. However, apparently because of their over-confidence

Column | The Need To Disarm All Possibilities For a Government Dominated Parliament Come April 2022

 |A Case For An Opposition Pact & Tactical Voting Against a Government Parliamentary Majority|    By Pa Louis Sambou   T o suggest that the result of the just concluded presidential elections was a landslide for President Barrow’s NPP led coalition would be the understatement of the year; it was a brutal political earthquake, whose tremor is yet to even abate. After everything said and done over the preceding eventful five years, the Gambian people decided and the weight and strength of their democratic verdict leaves very little room for any credible polemical exercise on the subject matter. Well, this is at least the view of most fair-minded people and it must not come as a surprise that such is a view with which I fully agree. I must however concede that exploring the slew of theories as to the mechanics behind why people voted the way they did, although an interesting exercise, on balance, it is a distraction which I am yet to be convinced meets sufficient threshold to be accor

Breaking: Passengers stranded at Banjul ferry terminal

Image
By Sheriff Saidykhan Passengers crossing from Banjul to Barra are currently stranded at the Banjul ferry terminal since in the morning. Lamin K. Jammeh, a frequent traveller at the Banjul terminal said passengers are stranded outside, due to technical failures from the ferry service. “Hundreds of people sitting and others standing outside the waiting room at the Banjul ferry crossing terminal, for more than five hours without crossing to Barra due to technical failure” he said. The predicaments faced by passengers he said, compelled many passengers to take boats to cross. He said the unfavorable climate at the ferry terminal, forced many passengers to postpone their trip. He added: “Several attempts were made to pull the Kunta Kinteh ferry but the attempts didn't pay any dividends, due to an old rope they were using. Passengers are now using boats to cross to Barra which is very risky because of the heavy wind in the sea. Some decided to postpone their journey till  tomorrow hence
