The independent aspirant for the upcoming local government election in 2023 has unveiled his plans for the Chairmanship of Brikama Area Council (BAC). Ibrahim JS Sanneh, has urged his supporters to vote for him saying he is the only candidate with sound policies for the development of the West Coast Region.

He made these remarks in an interview with The Outpost Media at his residence in Brikama.

“I have plans to unite the members of the council in order to archive our collective goals, expand the markets and build store, provide storage facilities for women vendors, drill boreholes and empower women gardeners, build proper drainage systems, provide as many as possible trash bins and waste trucks to keep the environments clean and healthy, scholarships for the underprivileged, youths and women empowerment, promoting health, sports and musicians within the west coast region,” he posited.

Poised to run under an independent ticket, this he believes will bring unity and development for the people of West Coast Region.

“I wanted to contest under the independent ticket simply because the west coast region needs Unity, equity and development and by the look of things these for so long have never been achieved under the leadership of all the former BAC chairmans and cannot be achieved if we still remain divided by party lines.

“As a youth I feel there is a need to call on all the native of the west coast region to come together and unite as one people and take over the leadership of our region, move forward as one people,” he said.

In his recent press statement, he highlighted that the council consisted of different councillors from different political parties and in order to lead them as chairman, it  will be better off with him as an independent chairman.

“Political parties have their agendas which they normally adhere to. And their councillors are indoctrinated with the same philosophy. Wards councillors of different political parties hardly marry their various agendas. Each of them is partisan in approach. They can easily cope with a candidate chairman who is open- minded and put his community and national interest first. This is not a propaganda; we all know that our parties ideologies  reflect on our behaviors, our interaction with others  co - politicians from other parties,” he advised.

Regarding his agenda of peace building, reconciliation and inclusiveness, he acknowledged the already divided society based on party politics and said he is worried about its future consequences  on the residents of the West  Coast Region.

“The National People's Party (NPP)  is a break- away faction of The United Democratic Party(UDP).The peoples Progressive party (PPP) is also in shambles with a break- away faction. The National Conventions Party(NCP) as well. It will be challenging for any winning chairman from these parties to unify us,” he warned.

He added: “I am the only independent contender so far, who is not affiliated to a political party. Indeed there are other contenders but they are from political parties. The worst of all is those hoping to  contest under party tickets. There are many candidates lined- up already and their parties are already divided as to whom to choose. If they win on party tickets, they cannot unite us because they will be carried by emotions and party agenda,”.
