Marr Nyang, the Executive Director of Gambia Participates (GP), a civil society organization set up to investigate corruption in the country has blamed the government of President Adama Barrow for its lack of inaction to fight corruption.

According to Transparency International, Gambia is ranked 110 in the world corruption report 2022.

“It just shows the consistent inaction of the government (executive) and parliament in prioritizing anti-corruption efforts,” he said.

In an interview with The Outpost Media, from Kenya, Nairobi he said the 66+ children that died due to the imported medical syrup from India were caused by blatant corruption and weak accountability mechanisms.

“Corruption kills and it knows no age or gender. We’ve witnessed citizens dying because of the government's lack of efforts to procure life saving medical machines or mechanisms to test medications before allowing fake drugs to make it to the market.

It just takes humans to do what is right for the government to live a comfortable and healthy life, our government is not doing what is right” he argued.

He added: “The corruption performance data for the Gambia is evidence that we are witnessing the backsliding of corruption in this country. We are just eight points better than one of the most corrupt governments in African history led by Yaya Jammeh. That tells a lot about our current situation,” he concluded.

“Electricity is accessible to remote communities, health Centres, and Posts, and ambulances were distributed across the length and breadth of the country. He wants to decentralize development. There is a road network extension in the country; everybody can attest to that. Farmers were given Fertiliser and equipment. I will give him 85 % in terms of development rating for 2024.” he said

Mr. Dampha further elaborated on the successful hosting of the OIC Summit in the Gambia as well as the availing of a conclusive environment for private businesses and development initiatives to flourish.

“Hamidou Jah is producing Gambian-grown rice thanks to the conclusive environment.”.

Mr. Dampha also described President Barrow as a problem solver, not a firefighter er, emphasizing that his principle is to investigate the genesis of the problem and find a duration solution to it.

“his development trajectory is more like a problem solver, not a firefighter. When there is a problem, he reacts quickly and finds out the root course of that problem. He worked on that and found a solution. He is a proactive leader.” he remarked.

Reacting to the recent allegations of vote rigging by the NPP, Mr Dampha said the government has distanced itself from such irresponsible and baseless allegations. He commended the charismatic Information Minister Dr Ismailia Ceesay, who applauded him for changing the government information flow dynamics.
