 | Former NAWEC boss, Alpha Robinson’s solemn tribute to the late venerable Hon Omar (O.J) Jallow |

By Alpha Robinson

In memory of Honourable Omar Amadou Jallow, alias OJ, as I remember him. He contributed his quota! Sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May he Rest In Peace in Janatul Firdaus.

He spoke - a poem

He spoke when most were mute

He said it as it was, standing on refute

He refused to bow when many froze in salute

He spoke

He looked the devil in the eye without a flinch

They could not move him an inch

A man wearing a demeanor without a switch

Staring at death without a twitch

He spoke

So Honourable you are rich

While they scramble for earthly material riches

Men and women in frantic pitching

Yours truly found a niche

In the corner of glorious loners by choice

He spoke

You looked your tormentor in the eye and smiled

Yes, with a broken eye you looked and smiled

To help heal broken hearts

To help mend the broken man by a mile

Painful memories of Mile 2

Could not bend the defiant will

To forgive at will

But never forget, minding the downslide

Not to please anyone but God

And the greater good

He spoke

Filthy mouths claiming to speak for God

Could not cut the cord

Yesterday and today connected by the chord

As you poked into the nostrils of Satan

You took your stand

If it must be, bring on the island

The tongue that did not lick the ego of Satan

He spoke

On your way to the other side

A grateful nation stands by the roadside

Unfazed by the rowdy unhinged deaf trumpeters

They wave goodbye

Farewell with handkerchiefs smelling of roses

A thankful teary crowd bows in awe

To the man who spoke

He justified his argument on the basis that the President has achieved monumental gains in terms of delivery adequately responding to the plights of the Gambian People.

“Electricity is accessible to remote communities, health Centres, and Posts, and ambulances were distributed across the length and breadth of the country. He wants to decentralize development. There is a road network extension in the country; everybody can attest to that. Farmers were given Fertiliser and equipment. I will give him 85 % in terms of development rating for 2024.” he said

Mr. Dampha further elaborated on the successful hosting of the OIC Summit in the Gambia as well as the availing of a conclusive environment for private businesses and development initiatives to flourish.

“Hamidou Jah is producing Gambian-grown rice thanks to the conclusive environment.”.

Mr. Dampha also described President Barrow as a problem solver, not a firefighter er, emphasizing that his principle is to investigate the genesis of the problem and find a duration solution to it.

“his development trajectory is more like a problem solver, not a firefighter. When there is a problem, he reacts quickly and finds out the root course of that problem. He worked on that and found a solution. He is a proactive leader.” he remarked.

Reacting to the recent allegations of vote rigging by the NPP, Mr Dampha said the government has distanced itself from such irresponsible and baseless allegations.
