LG Elections: UDP sweeps major seats in the local gov't elections

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has won the Mayoral seat of Banjul, the Kanifing Municipal Council, the Chairman seat of both West Coast Region and Lower River Region respectively. 


Election results


Ahmed Talib Bensouda of UDP has 56,094 votes while his main opponent Bakary Y. Badjie has 42, 432 votes. The independent candidate  has 5,092 votes. 


In Banjul City Council, Rohey malick  Lowe has 8,299 votes  an NPP'S Ebou Faye  has 6,992 votes.


In Brikama Area council, UDP'S Yankuba Darboe has 77,946 votes; Jainaba Bah of PPP has 2,023 votes; Ibrahim J.S Sanneh,  has 24,558; Baisey Sawo, independent  candidate  has 1,183 votes; Salieu Jallow,  independent candidate has 1,022, Ahmed Gitteh, independent has 6,718,  Seedy Ceesay of NPP has 51,429 votes.


It has been a disappointing election for the ruling National People's Party, after loosing a heavy defeat in Banjul, Kanifing and West Coast Region. 


With all votes counted, the United Democratic Party secured four seats in the urban area, whilst the National People's Party secured four Chairmanship seats in the rural areas.

Essa Dampha says there is no credible opposition to match Barrow

Mr Essa Dampha, the outspoken aide on media for President Adama Barrow, asserted that the President has the prospects of winning the 2026 election with a landslide.

He justified his argument on the basis that the President has achieved monumental gains in terms of delivery adequately responding to the plights of the Gambian People.

“Electricity is accessible to remote communities, health Centres, and Posts, and ambulances were distributed across the length and breadth of the country. He wants to decentralize development. Mr. Dampha further elaborated on the successful hosting of the OIC Summit in the Gambia as well as the availing of a conclusive environment for private businesses and development initiatives to flourish.

“Hamidou Jah is producing Gambian-grown rice thanks to the conclusive environment.”. 

Mr. Dampha also described President Barrow as a problem solver, not a firefighter er, emphasizing that his principle is to investigate the genesis of the problem and find a duration solution to it.

“his development trajectory is more like a problem solver, not a firefighter. When there is a problem, he reacts quickly and finds out the root course of that problem. He worked on that and found a solution. He is a proactive leader.” he remarked. 

Reacting to the recent allegations of vote rigging by the NPP, Mr Dampha said the government has distanced itself from such irresponsible and baseless allegations. He commended the charismatic Information Minister Dr Ismailia Ceesay, who applauded him for changing the government information flow dynamics.
