The Coalition of Progressive Gambians (COPG) is set for a nationwide protest, amid government's failure to fulfil their demands, chief among which is the cost of living conditions in the country.

“We opted therefore to plan and call for a nationwide protest to ensure our concerns and demands are considered and addressed,” the statement said.

The pressure group further reminded the government of President Adama Barrow of the concerns presented to the Permanent Secretary for Interior.

“The Coalition of Progressive Gambians therefore calls on government to take these concerns seriously and swiftly address the short term concerns and demands presented. The short term demands and concerns included addressing the high cost of living, the audit and TRRC Recommendations  and most importantly bringing back the Draft Constitution.

The COPG express disappointment on the failure of government to address the concerns and demands presented to them. This manifest the government's lack of concern, will, needs and wants of the people,” the statement added.

The Coalition of Progressive Gambians reiterated its commitment to pursue these demands, until it is address by the government.

“We, as a group, continue to urge the government to take these concerns seriously as we will continue to take all possible measures to ensure that these demands are met,” according to the statement.

The statement added: “The Coalition of Progressive Gambians also wish to call groups and stakeholders to come together, unite with one voice and objective to ensure that our concerns and demands are considered and the Draft Constitution, which is the popular demand is brought back,” the statement concluded.

Reacting to the recent allegations of vote rigging by the NPP, Mr Dampha said the government has distanced itself from such irresponsible and baseless allegations.
