‘Justice is inevitable, inescapable for criminals’ - Madi Ceesay

Madi MK Ceesay, national assembly member for Serrekunda West, and onetime victim of Jammeh era, has said that justice is inevitable and inescapable for criminals to hide. 


In a telephone interview with this medium, Madi Ceesay expressed delight and extended gratitude to the Swiss Federal Court verdict on the 20 years jail term sentencing of Ousman Sonko.


“This goes to tell perpetrators that, days are gone now when you can trample on people's right and think you can go scot free. No hiding in the world. Nowhere to hide. Anywhere you go to you will face justice.” he argued.


The Switz Federal Court found Ousman Sonko guilty of aiding and abetting the former regime, on rights violations committed under the ruthless hands of Yahya Jammeh.


Ousman Sonko is also obliged to compensate the victims, money amounting to 20 million Dalasis. And also after his sentencing, Sonko will be expelled from switz and ban for 12 years not to enter switz. 


After having testified during the trial of Ousman Sonko, Madi said he was optimistic that justice will be serve. 


“On the verdict of Ousman Sonko, it is a very pleasing information for us the victims and by extension our families. This is not a surprise to me, because I was optimistic since the beginning of the trial. Because I was there in Swiss. I know that Sonko cannot get it his way.


For us the victims we happy, after several years of pain and agony. And now the person has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.” he said. 


The sentencing of Ousman Sonko, and Bai Lowe he said, are signals that Jammeh and his cohorts will also face similar trial. 


“You have criminals who have confessed to the crimes they have committed, all is set also to tried such persons when the special prosecution Act is up and running and the special accountability is set.” he concluded.

Mr Essa Dampha, the outspoken aide on media for President Adama Barrow, asserted that the President has the prospects of winning the 2026 election with a landslide.

Mr. Dampha also described President Barrow as a problem solver, not a firefighter er, emphasizing that his principle is to investigate the genesis of the problem and find a duration solution to it.

“his development trajectory is more like a problem solver, not a firefighter. When there is a problem, he reacts quickly and finds out the root course of that problem. He worked on that and found a solution. He is a proactive leader.” he remarked. 

Reacting to the recent allegations of vote rigging by the NPP, Mr Dampha said the government has distanced itself from such irresponsible and baseless allegations. He commended the charismatic Information Minister Dr Ismailia Ceesay, who applauded him for changing the government information flow dynamics.
