Gambia Christian Council Condemns Sabally’s derogatory remarks

By Sheriff Saidykhan The Gambia Christian Council (GCC) have condemned the recent deregatory remarks of Momodou Sabally, the campaign manager of the United Democratic Party (UDP), about the Christian faith. Readers could that, the recent ‘veil’ banning in some Christian based school's have sparked a nationwide debate across different social strata, over religious tolerance and vis-à-vis school's code of conduct. The Christian Council said it is fully aware of the deregatory and unhealthy remarks made by Momodou Sabally. The Council further urges his party to disassociate itself from such unacceptable views. “The Christian Council is also aware of derogatory, unhealthy, and ill informed-pronouncements made by Mr. Momodou Sabally, the campaign manager of one of the leading political parties in our nation. These may be his personal views or those of his party.  We expect the national executive of his party to dissociate the party from such unacceptable views,” the Council urged. T

Peace Network wants IEC to rise bar higher for Mayor, Presidential, Parlimentary Contenders

  By Amo Manneh  Peace Network, a non profit organisation called the Indepedent Electoral Commission (IEC) to increase the requirement and qualifications for Councilorship, Mayoral, National Assembly and Presidential aspiring candidates in the country. Accroding to Alasana Justice Jallow Chief Executive Officer of Peace Network, the qualifications for councilorship should be graded with Senior Secondary School Certificate with at least three credits. He added that, the qualifications for mayoral candiatates should be undergraduate degree or Higher National Diploma whilst parliamentarian or presidential candidates should have a minium of first-degree.  He made these remarks on Wednesday during the Peace Network recommendation statement ahead of the local government election. ChildCare Gambia warms against street begging

                                    By Sheriff Saidykhan  ChildCare Gambia, a non-profit organisation aimed at confronting child abuse has warned against street begging of children in the country.  ChildCare Gambia, joins the rest of the world marking International Street Children's day. The day is set aside annually to amplify the voices of street children, and to protect their rights.  In her Facebook message posted yesterday Sainabou Chaw, the Executive Director of ChildCare Gambia said children begging off the street leads them to many explorations. “Many children often faces anxiety and trauma which may lead them to substantial abuse and suicide. This is a duty of societal exclusion and trauma which affects their mental health. Kids are not meant to be in the street. Sending them on the street will expose them to danger,” she posited.
